Eric Wallentine is the Associate Artist of Blice Edwards Inc., and has been working alongside Chris and Jon for the past 8 years. He is indispensable to the success of the projects. Eric is often regarded as Jon’s right-hand man (who is left handed), working through many of the installation issues that arise and keeping the projects moving forward.
Eric has completed art classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, Herron School of Art and Design and the Indianapolis Art Center, but often considers himself self-taught in the arts and as a craftsman. He has resided in Indianapolis for the last 12 years.
What were your childhood dreams? My childhood dreams were always to create art, and I always wanted to fly. I’ve satisfied my need for flight with micro-RC aircraft, and I barely made it through flight school as far as my first cross country solo.
What do you love about your job? I feel it is a privilege to practice my craft as an artist.
What’s your favorite café, place to eat or drink (and dance, if you dance)? I enjoy my kitchen and my friends’ kitchens.
Who are your favorite artists? I have been shaped by my upbringing and life experiences in Utah. Maybe more so, I ‘ve been shaped by my many years of travel and mountain biking. I probably should thank Mom and Dad for the genes.
Where do you go for inspiration? For inspiration I generally find myself on my bicycle with the ipod, in search of dirt trails or any terrain away from cars. I am inspired almost entirely by nature in all its creation. I don’t rely on media much for inspiration, although I do consume a lot of music.
What is your favorite drink? My favorite drink is carrot juice. (It is the cure.)
Describe your personality. I would say I have a positive, spastic energy. I’m a fast worker and an outgoing Armageddon enthusiast.
What are your three indispensable skills? My indispensible skills are my ability to create and craft in many different mediums. I also make and use my own crossbows, bows, and arrows. (Check out corkbo.com.)
What are future plans / dreams for (1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 100 years from now)? As for my future plans, my wife and I will finish raising our blended family and hightail it back to Southern Utah where we met, and where hopefully we will keep on riding. I would like to get there by painting more, as I am quite happy with the path I’m already on.
What is one piece of advice you’d give your son, daughter, niece, nephew (when they aren’t teenagers and actually value you what you say – so say they are 40)? Don’t put me in a nursing home or else.”
What is one thing about Blice Edwards, Inc. that would surprise or interest others? People may not realize that the product that they get from BliceEdwards is always one of a kind and more than likely, we enjoyed creating it.
Describe your workspace. What is outside your window (assuming you have one)? Funny you should ask. I do work a lot at home, so looking out my window I can see garden, chicken coop, or chores.
Describe your perfect day? Alta, Utah, or dawn on the slick rock trail, Moab.
